The legal classifications of Scotch whisky can appear confusing to newcomers, not least because terms such as Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Blended Scotch Whisky and Blended Grain Scotch Whisky sound deceptively similar. In practice, however, the distinctions are straightforward once you understand that the labels describe both the type of whisky involved and whether it comes from one distillery or several. It has then been matured for no less than three years in casks stored in Scotland and bottled at a minimum strength of 40% ABV.
