Caorunn is a Scottish gin made at Balmenach Distillery in Speyside, in the foothills of the Cairngorms. Launched in 2009, it brings gin production into a working malt whisky distillery, giving the brand a distinctive Highland setting as well as a clear point of difference within modern Scottish gin.
The brand is part of Inver House Distillers, whose whisky portfolio includes Balmenach, Old Pulteney, Speyburn, Balblair and anCnoc. Caorunn is distilled in small batches using a copper berry chamber, with its botanical recipe combining traditional gin ingredients with locally foraged Scottish botanicals such as rowan berry, heather, coul blush apple, dandelion and bog myrtle.
The classic Caorunn Gin is crisp, dry and aromatic, with juniper, citrus, gentle spice and a fresh orchard-fruit brightness from its Highland botanicals. The wider range includes expressions such as Scottish Raspberry and Blood Orange & Chilli, which build on the original's clean structure with brighter fruit and more contemporary serving options.
Caorunn works because it is both recognisably gin and recognisably Scottish. Its character is not built around heavy sweetness or novelty alone, but around a precise, fresh style shaped by local botanicals, Speyside distilling heritage and a lightness that suits gin and tonic, Martinis and longer mixed serves.
