Chairman's Reserve is the flagship rum brand of Saint Lucia Distillers, produced in the Roseau Valley on the island's west coast. First blended in 1999 under the direction of then-chairman Laurie Barnard, it was created to show a more characterful and export-ready side of Saint Lucian rum.
The brand is made from a blend of pot and column still rums, giving it both weight and balance. Saint Lucia Distillers works with a varied still set, including traditional pot stills and continuous stills, allowing Chairman's Reserve to combine richer, heavier marks with lighter, more elegant spirit. The wider range includes Original, Spiced, Forgotten Casks, Legacy, 1931 and selected vintage or cask-strength Master's Selection releases.
The style is rounded, aromatic and gently robust, with notes of cooked banana, caramelised fruit, vanilla, chocolate, spice, tobacco and soft oak. Pot still components bring texture and depth, while the column still spirit helps keep the blend polished and approachable. Forgotten Casks and limited releases tend to show greater maturity, wood influence and concentration.
Chairman's Reserve offers a strong introduction to Saint Lucian rum: more distinctive than many simple mixing rums, but still versatile enough for cocktails and long drinks. At its best, it combines Caribbean richness with real distillery character, making it a rewarding choice for drinkers exploring rum beyond the largest global brands.
