Whiskybroker is an independent bottler specialized in bottling cask at rather pleasant prices. You can, for example, get a 17 Year Old Auchentoshan there for only 55 EUR. Just saying. Anyway, this Cragganmore is 20 years old and was bottled by Martin Armstrong, the man behind the label, in 2011. It is the oldest Cragganmore I have tried to date....

Cragganmore 12 Year Old 20cl

I don't like caramel colouring agents in whisky. This whisky is more white pepper than smokey peat which is how it is described on the bottle. Bitter finish. I am sure a that few years back this was a nicer whisky but may be my palate is aging wisely.

This whisky has a crazy-good nose. Really complex; vanilla sweet, fruity and floral with a creamy/savoury edge. I take several deep whiffs with every sip, the smell is what really makes this whisky. The taste starts out honey sweet end which slowly reveals a more meaty savoury edge. The finish is long, fruity and sweet, with a hint of smoke...

Cragganmore 12 Year Old

Classic, no sherry. The way a whisky should be. Somehow this malt manages to be everything. Very fragrant, it has both cut grass and fruity aromas, which are normally mutually exclusive a-la Glenkinchie vs. Glenlivet. And it has the perfect, perfect amount of peat/smoke; it's there, but it balances perfectly with the other flavours.
