An independent bottling of Speyside whisky, Dallas Dhu, by Douglas Laing. This Single Malt Scotch Whisky was distilled in 1976 and matured in oak casks for 24 years before being bottled in 2001. Dallas Dhu 1980/2007, 26 Years, Part Des Anges

from a purchased sample Nose: Along the lines of the 1981, though perhaps a touch more minerally. Spun cotton candy, sweet glue, and a little more floral. Maybe less complex, though far greater balance and control of the sweetness. Of course, candied and sweet barley, lemon zest, a single quince. Fresh apricots, too, and caster sugar frosting....

Dallas Dhu 1979/2009 Gordon & Macphail

from a purchased sample Nose: Lighter and very high pitch. Linseed oil, two or three daffodils, sweet malt. Green pepper and some other green, vegetal notes, fairly indistinct. Not much else going on. Palate: About the same thing. The oak isn't heavy, but the rest of the profile is so transparent that the oak shines through more than it should....

Old Malt Cask from Douglas Laing means golden drinking strength, i.e. 50%. Rumour has it that the Laing brothers are splitting the company, but I am trying a Dallas Dhu from the good old days. It is a distillate from before I was born, that matured for 31 long years on a sherry cask. My oldest Dallas Dhu so far. The nose offers nice fruity tones....

Dallas Dhu 26 Year Old 1981 Duncan Taylor Rare Auld

This Dallas Dhu, from the long gone distillery turned museum in Forres, run by Historic Scotland, was bottled by Duncan Taylor in their Rare Auld series. I believe it to be a sherry cask, unless mistaken. It is sometimes hard to tell with these older casks (unless, of course, it is mentioned on the label, which is not the case here). Very fruity...
