It had already been 8 years since I last tried the Glenkinchie 12. That may seems like a very long time (well, it is…), but that has everything to do with the fact that this malt does not have a very good reputation. But going back to basics from time to time is not a bad idea. So… here we go. You may call this a floral nose. Quite some grasses...

Glenkinchie 1991 Distiller's Edition

This 14 year old, distilled in 91, botlled in 05 was quite pleasant. Its deep mahogany color promised some richness and it delivers. The Nose is sweet with hints of nuts, raisin and malt. The Palate is mellow with a slightly oily and fruity presence. With water it gives up scents of caramel and malt and has a medium-long sweet/sour finish.

Nose: I am greeted with floral tones and citrus fruit like grapefruit that are subtly released rather than striking the nose with an immediate thump.
