A Glenlivet from 1939 by the respected independent bottler Gordon & Macphail. Glenlivet is a distillery in the Speyside region in Scotland. The bottling strength of this whisky is 40% which is at the lower end of the scale for whiskies. Although these days many consumers are pushing for producers to bottle closer to 43% or 46% there are still some fine lower strength whiskies.

I bought this 1-litre bottle in an airport for a good price. It was not in my wishlist but when I saw its price I thought... why not? Nose. Elegant and subtle, it brings back my memories to a mix of wet granite stone, wet grass and fern. Floral notes come just after along with citrus, apple, (sweet?) pineapple. Pleasant, though quite discrete....
