Certainly peaty on the nose, but no spiciness or other distinct characteristics. Mellow and smooth, but still flavourful. Burnt sugar and peaty smokey again on the palate, but still mild.

The third and final (for now) club bottling of McShelfie (a Belgian whiskyclub) is this Tomintoul from 2006, matured on a combination of refill hogsheads and refill oloroso hogsheads. Putting my money where my mouth is, I immediately got two more Tomintoul samples. I will taste them head to head. Let us start off with this 43 Year Old from A.D. Rattray, from a bourbon cask, bottled in 2010. Hmm, yes, again very tropical on mirabel, apricot, peach, mandarin, grapefruit. You name it, this Tomintoul has got it. And so soft, too....
