Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Compare 4 prices from CA$42.70

Like its similarly named Scotch counterpart, Single Malt Irish Whiskey is made from malted barley, water and yeast. It is produced by distilling the alcoholic liquid created through the fermentation of malted barley, and under the Irish whiskey technical file it must be distilled in pot stills at a single distillery.

The word "Single" means that all of the whiskey in the bottle has been distilled at one distillery. "Malt" refers to whiskey made from a mash of malted cereals, without the addition of other whole cereal grains. And "Irish Whiskey" means that it has been distilled and matured on the island of Ireland in accordance with the regulations governing Irish whiskey production.

The result is a style that can differ significantly from distillery to distillery, but which is often valued for its clarity of flavour, elegance and ability to showcase both the character of the spirit and the influence of maturation. Single Malt Irish Whiskey may share a name and some production methods with single malt Scotch, but it remains part of a distinctive Irish whiskey tradition with its own history and identity.
